A pattern has been detected.
2009: New Star Trek comes out, draws flocks of new fans to the show(s). "Old" fans throw collective fit at all the new people, who "aren't real fans" or whatever.
2009/2010: New Sherlock Holmes comes out, draws flocks of new fans to the fandom. "Old" fans throw collective fit at all the new people, who "aren't real fans" or whatever.
(Happened with Doctor Who too... or rather, has been happening since 2005 and will probably happen some more when S5 starts.)
And throughout all of this, Yours Truly is standing on the sidelines laughing her ass off at the idiots in the abovementioned fandoms who bother to differentiate between old and new fans of [whatever].
