1. My username is ______ because ______.

[livejournal.com profile] trillianastra because I love, adore and pretty much worship the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, and Trillian Astra is the name Trillian uses when she's a jetsetting intergalactic reporter.

2. My name is _____ because ______.

Nicole. Because my dad apparently had a thing for French names. (So. Not. Kidding. You should see my sisters' middle names.... mine aren't too bad, actually)

3. My journal is titled ____ because ____.

Scribbles, Thoughts and Miscellany, because it's broad enough to encompass all the things I post/rant/ramble on about. Also, I really like the word Miscellany. (It's one of my top three favourite words. The others are Ephemera and Syzygy.)

4. My friends page is called ____ because ____.

Scribblers, because it went with the journal title.

5. My default userpic is ____ because ____.

The extremely sexy Joseph Fiennes, from FlashForward, a show that is infuriating, addictive, and also... my fill-in show to keep me going on mysterious stuff until Lost gets back.

IN OTHER NEWS

I have been watching Stargate Universe, which in itself is odd because I've never really been that attached to the Stargate franchise. Sure, I saw a few episodes of SG-1, but I never got into Atlantis... and then SGU came along.

And OK, maybe it was the Robert Carlyle involvement that drew me in (It was, I admit it - I'd watch anything with him in. Unfortunately, down that road lies *shudder* Eragon). But once I was THERE, I found that, actually, there are a whole bunch of other characters I like as well.

quick lowdown...
- I think I have a teeny crush on Lt. Scott. *le sigh*
- OK, so, I really like Chloe. Kinda identify with her a bit, maybe it's because she's my age. IDK.
- After the last ep I saw ("Light", ep 5), I really like Greer. He may even be my replacement Starbuck.
- In fact, the whole damn show looks like it's shaping up to be my replacement for BSG. This extends to my tendency to collect substitute-father-figures from my various fandoms. With BSG it was Bill Adama. This time round, I suspect it's going to be Col. Young.
- Eli's great. I FriendShip him with Chloe a bit.
- I'm also kinda in awe of Dr Rush. A bit. For... obvious reasons, I guess.
- Destiny is a beautiful ship. (well done, SFX guys!)

Yep, once again I've discovered, and fallen in love with, a TV show that started a good twenty-odd years before I was born. First it was Doctor Who, then it was Star Trek: TOS...

and now, it's The Avengers.

(That's the British TV one, not the one with Captain America)

The basic premise is that the main character, one John Steed (and the most English Englishman ever to... english?), goes around solving crimes/foiling conspiracies/solving mysteries with the help of a partner (the partners change around... the best-known is Mrs Emma Peel, played by Diana Rigg who became a Bond girl later...).

Steed also has an umbrella with a camera in it, and a bowler hat with a steel brim.

Mrs Peel... well, she's mostly just awesome. She's smart, independent, totally capable of looking after herself, she practices martial arts and knows how to fence. Oh, and she does scientific experiments in her apartment. And looks really good in a catsuit.

I should also mention that this show is REALLY well-produced for a 60s show (it's hardly dated at all to be honest). The writing is great, some very witty lines, and sometimes the Steed/Peel subtext is a bit, um, astounding.

Anyway. It fills my need for old TV shows hardly anyone has heard of, and it's awesome at the same time.

(I also... quite seriously want Doctor Who crossover fic.)

OK, so my head's kinda *bleurgh* this evening because I spent all day revising for my Film History exam on Tuesday. Thus, I now know waaaaay more about the history of the western and German cinema from 1945-the 1980s that I ever thought I'd need to know.

So... I decided to recharge the brain batteries with some TV. Fair enough.

Thursday is my Criminal Minds day, so that was first. Awesome as usual, and oh deities, if I could stop being obsessed with Hotch right now, that'd be good.

Next up was Eastwick. Which I love too much for words. Also, HOLY SHIT DID WHAT I THINK HAPPENED ACTUALLY JUST HAPPEN? WEIRD, man. Also... NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, WILL. (OK, so I sort of really, majorly identify with Joanna. Except for the no-inner-editor thing and the verbal diarrhoea and the got-left-at-the-altar thing. Everything else, though... scarily similar to me. So I get... frustrated. About Will-related issues.)

Also, would be nice if Darryl van freaking Horne could stop haunting my dreams/daydreams/etc. Seriously, I used to be able to think about, y'know, guys other than him. Not so easy now.

And finally, (and this is all [livejournal.com profile] bradeatspeeps's fault)... Gossip Girl. Prior to today, I'd seen all of... two episodes, mostly down to curiosity. But I've been told it's really good, so I gave it another chance.

AND I LOVE IT ALREADY.

I think (at the moment, give me time here people), that my favourite is Dan. He's adorkable, basically.

But Nate seems cool too (on top of being gorgeous) and a certain Mr C. Bass might be sneaking his way into my world... dammit. Also, Serena's brother is awesome.

Fringe

So I finally started watching Fringe.

Actually...

oh, hell, I love it. It's like the X-Files but with fewer aliens and marginally more "WHAT the FRAK did he just DO?"

also... Lance Reddick still scares me (I can't help it, I swear), I think (no, I KNOW) I have a crush on Joshua Jackson of all people, and then there's Walter Bishop.

I don't know how I feel about him yet. He's... complex, and that's putting it lightly.

Finally: I just had this idea that Fringe/Dollhouse fic might possibly work quite well. Hell, Walter probably helped with building the imprint-chair-thing on Dollhouse ANYWAY, it's totally the kind of thing he'd have done before St Claire's.

Heh.

So I just watched this thing called "Krod Mandoon and the Flaming Sword of Fire" on BBC2.

(Yes, it is as silly as the name suggests)

But it's also the most fantastic thing ever. And I think I have a crush on Sean Maguire now.

*sigh*

Okay... so, seeing as we're having lots of season finales at the moment, I'm kinda on the lookout for a new show to watch over the summer.

AND I THINK I FOUND IT.

It's called Lie to Me. Basically it's bunch of people who are really, really good at reading facial expressions figuring out the truth behind the Situation of the Week.

(so kinda like House, only with less medicine and more liars)

Also the main character is played by Tim Roth. Who I have a slight... thing... for, revolving mostly around him being awesome and strangely attractive.

There's another good thing too... I'm getting a lot better at reading facial expressions myself. Seeing as that's something I tend to suck at, generally speaking, it's a good thing that I'm getting better at it, right?

Ok, so my friend Toni really likes the show Supernatural. I've seen a few episodes before today and what I've seen was pretty good. So when I heard that the current season (four) was shaping up to be really, really good, I decided to give it another go.

I've seen the first few episodes of season one already, so I went for starting with season 3. The first episode was good (even though I spent a good ten minutes staring and repeating "It's Lisa the Cyberwoman from Torchwood" to myself). The second episode (that's "The Kids Are All Right") was even better.

Reasoning:
1. Dean's ex's kid. Who I will continue calling MiniDean, because that kid is WAY too much like him for it to be a coincidence. And how many eight-year-olds do you know who listen to AC/DC?
2. The demon/Hunter/whoever the hell she is who keeps showing up wanting to help Sam. Until the "she's a demon" thing she kept reminding me of Elle from Heroes...
3. The changelings. a) generally speaking an imaginative way to handle an old idea and b) THE KIDS. OH MY GOD THE KIDS.

See, ever since the Doctor Who ep "The Empty Child", children speaking in monotone voices and asking for their mummy has been a little... terrifying... for me. So yeah. And when one of the changelings is trying to break down a door to get to its "mummy"? Didn't make the comparison go away.

So yeah. Supernatural. Amazing show. Definitely going to keep watching (and I will go back and check out the rest of the earlier seasons as well).
