With the recent-ish release of more Watchmen trailers, I've been thinking about it a lot. Also, during my most recent re-read of the graphic novel, I realised something.

Well, Ozymandias' big plan is essentially to fake an alien invasion of New York, resulting in the deaths of most of the city, so that a better, brighter world can emerge, right?

... doesn't that sound a lot like someone else's plan for a better world?

Way back in the first season of Heroes, the Big Plan was to... oh, wait, blow up New York (resulting in the deaths of most of the city) so that a better world can be built in the aftermath.

Seeing as Watchmen pre-dates Heroes by about twenty years... I'd say it's fairly safe to say that someone on the Heroes crew is a Watchmen fan.

My second Watchmen-Heroes link regards Sylar. Back when he was plain old Gabriel Gray, he was a watchmaker, right? And I know, he was supposed to be this nobody that no-one ever paid much attention to. Except, if the writers wanted that, they could have given him any one of a hundred different careers. He could have been anything, but they specifically made him a watchmaker.

(This is especially relevant considering the current situation in Heroes, whereby Sylar is pretty much the most powerful Special there is.)

Returning to Watchmen...

Jon Osterman's father was a watchmaker. As a school student, Jon intended to do the same, until his father pushed him into a nuclear physics degree instead.

Jon Osterman later had a nasty incident with a disintegration chamber and became Doctor Manhattan, who is literally the most powerful being on the planet.

(Seeing the parallel here?)

I realise that Sylar and Doc Manhattan are very different characters... but the similarities in their origins are still there. It's just... well, Jon Osterman got disintegrated and Gabriel Gray met Elle and killed a guy.

...actually, that could be the basis of an interesting crossover fic....
