Heroes 3x06 "Dying of the Light"

It's that time again.... once more, we descend into the Heroes-verse for our weekly dose of "WTF is going on here?".

Before we get down to the details, I would first like to take a moment to express the sheer awesomeness of Sandra Bennet. Remember back when she was just Claire's mom who was never really involved and talked about Mr Muggles a lot? Little did we know that under that quiet, unassuming exterior was hidden a character of such coolness.



While we're on the subject of Bennets, damn Claire is really starting to shape up into something resembling BAMF!Claire that we saw in "I am become death". I mean, okay, so she did manage to get herself and Sandra captured by Eric "Creepy PuppetMaster Guy" Doyle as well as Meredith, but afterwards she was really very effective getting them out of that situation. (I am starting to warm to Meredith now... seeing as my reaction to her in S1 was "GTFO you money-grubbing bitch", it's quite impressive that she's becoming quite... idk, likeable. Almost.)

Also, this ep really had very little HRG. He had one scene, and that was just him saying that Claire's actions were "impressive". Maybe he's hiding after his shameful behaviour in "Angels and Monsters". And what, incidentally, has happened to Lyle? Has he disappeared down a plot hole with Mr Muggles and Sylar's "I have sinned" wall from S1? Actually, knowing the Heroes writers, he actually might have done...

Anyways, just to wrap up the Bennet-based half of this ep... JESUS CHRIST this guy Eric Doyle is just maybe a teeny bit terrifying. Though, really, he'd be scary without his ability, just through being all slimy and creepy and quite frankly grotesque. The ability just makes it worse.

Now: Heading away from Costa Verde, even more OMGWTF stuff has been happening. Let's start with Hiro, shall we?

First, I was extremely, extremely glad to see that Ando is not, in fact, dead. Also, the fact that the "specials for hire" bar is called the Angry Skunk Bar is just.. quietly hilarious, really.

Second: Hmm, Pinehearst (via Daphne) sending Hiro after Usutu the African Isaac TM. These were some of the only actually funny scenes this week, with much Hiro-being-hit-with-a-shovel and being confused and cute. Also, Hiro calls Usutu "Mr African Isaac", which I loved seeing as I've been calling the guy African Isaac since I found out his power, and even *after* I learnt his name.

Moving on.... Daphne has been a very busy girl this week. She's had time to go break Flint out of Level 5 (and attempt to get Sylar too, but he refused to go with her), and she's also a) met and b) had a little talk with Matt. Who is now back in the States, though still accompanied by the Spirit Guide Turtle.

This little encounter left me with a few bits of information.
1) Matt/Daphne must happen. IT MUST, I TELL YOU.
2) Pinehearst or the Company or whoever is holding *something* over Daphne's head to ensure her compliance. I for one would really like to know what it is.
3) Matt'n'Daphne's baby in 3x04, Daniella, was named after Daphne's gran. Hmmmm.

Also, I'm becoming convinced that there's something hinky going on with Spirit Guide Turtle. But I don't know what, yet, or even if there really is anything.

This concludes the "Daphne" section.

Section three is for the really big WTF moments/scary stuff, which this week all seems to revolve around the Petrellis.

First: Nathan'n'Tracy go to see Mohinder, Mohinder says he ought to be able to help them, injects "DNA markers" into them.... and then they both start feeling woozy and collapse, realising that Mohinder isn't quite the same as he was the last time Nathan saw him.

There was a point, when they tried to escape, when I really wanted Mohinder to say "....don't make me angry, you wouldn't like me when I'm angry..." but he didn't. Well, I'm relatively sure he'll Hulk out properly soon enough. Also, exactly how many people has he got cocooned up inside that lab? I know there's Maya and missing-neighbour-dude and park-drug-dealer-dude, but it looks like there ought to be more than just three.

Second: OMG WTF IS UP WITH DADDY PETRELLI?

a) Apparently he wanted Adam for his power.
b) if I'm right, Daddy Petrelli likes Sylar/Gabriel "just the way he is", i.e. a killer/monster/whatever you want to call him.
c) hmmm, well, apparently Daddy Petrelli's power is stealing the abilities of other specials. And in his case, it is actually "stealing" - Peter "borrows" others' abilities, but his daddy actually takes them completely. Even, as with Adam, when those abilities are what is keeping the person alive.

This makes me think that a) Daddy Petrelli is now basically as invulnerable as they come, b) he is now pretty much the most powerful Special on the planet after taking Peter's abilities and c) if someone does manage to kill him, the abilities he's stolen will be returned to those he stole them from - in Adam's case this will most likely mean actual resurrection, seeing as no decapitation occurred and decapitation has been established as the only way people with Cellular Regeneration can die (Claire, Adam, Sylar and - prior to this ep - Peter).

Also: Peter took Sylar's "intuitive aptitude" power. With this comes the "hunger" that caused Sylar to kill all those people. Daddy Petrelli stole Peter's powers. Presumeably this means *all* his powers. So... if my logic is right, Peter no longer has the "hunger", but Daddy Petrelli does.

Nothing about that theory is a good thing.

To Sum Up:

In between the EEEP and the WTF and the WOOO HIRO/DAPHNE/MATT/CLAIRE, this episode is really very dark, and scary, and probably the most depressing of the season so far. Unfortunately, it looks like things are only going to get worse. Still... you know what they say, things always get worse before they get better.

I just hope the "better" part comes along soon.

I would rather Daddy Petrelli have the hunger than Peter have it, just because I love Peter as a "OMZ I WANNA B A HERO" over the angsty "OMZ I VANT J00R POWERZ!!1" type. >>
