Yep, once again I've discovered, and fallen in love with, a TV show that started a good twenty-odd years before I was born. First it was Doctor Who, then it was Star Trek: TOS...

and now, it's The Avengers.

(That's the British TV one, not the one with Captain America)

The basic premise is that the main character, one John Steed (and the most English Englishman ever to... english?), goes around solving crimes/foiling conspiracies/solving mysteries with the help of a partner (the partners change around... the best-known is Mrs Emma Peel, played by Diana Rigg who became a Bond girl later...).

Steed also has an umbrella with a camera in it, and a bowler hat with a steel brim.

Mrs Peel... well, she's mostly just awesome. She's smart, independent, totally capable of looking after herself, she practices martial arts and knows how to fence. Oh, and she does scientific experiments in her apartment. And looks really good in a catsuit.

I should also mention that this show is REALLY well-produced for a 60s show (it's hardly dated at all to be honest). The writing is great, some very witty lines, and sometimes the Steed/Peel subtext is a bit, um, astounding.

Anyway. It fills my need for old TV shows hardly anyone has heard of, and it's awesome at the same time.

(I also... quite seriously want Doctor Who crossover fic.)
