I saw Predators. (It's produced by Robert Rodriguez! I had to!)
IT WAS AWESOME.
So, we have these eight people, who get literally thrown onto an unknown planet to be, um, big game for the local Predators.
(Well, they don't know it's a planet at first, because they all end up in a jungle. For a moment, it looked suspiciously like the Island from Lost. Which would, incidentally, make an interesting AU....)
The people... well, only half of them seem to have names, so I gave the others nicknames. Altogether we've got Royce (mercenary), Isabelle (???), Nikolai (Spetznaz - Russia), 'Sierra Leone' (RUF - Africa), 'Mexican Enforcer', 'Barefoot Yakuza' (because his first scene, all he does is take his shoes off. randomly.), 'FBI's Most Wanted' (death row prisoner), and Edwin.
Edwin is a bit different, because he's a doctor. Well, mostly. He's also, we find out near the end, a sociopathic murderer, which is why he ended up on the Prison Game Reserve in the first place.
Basically, all eight are what most people would consider to be Very Very Dangerous People. They are, in fact, predators. The human kind, not the aliens.
Which reminds me... the PGR has three main aliens. There are the 'dogs', smaller, quadripedal animals with an inordinate number of tusks; and then there are Big Predators and Smaller Predator. The 'dogs' are used the same way we humans use actual dogs to hunt - they flush prey out into the open. The Smaller Predators hunt the humans, and the Big Predators hunt pretty much everything.
As you might expect, almost everyone dies. (I think the order was... Mexican Enforcer, Sierra Leone, Nikolai, FBI's Most Wanted, Barefoot Yakuza, Edwin)
Oh, and at one point they randomly find Laurence Fishburne in the jungle, who's been surviving on the PGR for what he says is ten seasons. He talks to someone who isn't there and speaks like Don Corleone. And is batshit crazy. He dies, too.
So, by the end, it's just Royce and Isabelle left, and they have one thing in mind (besides, obviously, surviving): getting the hell off the PGR. And as they're standing there contemplating that, we see a whole bunch of parachutes in the sky: the next batch of Very Dangerous People being dropped in.
Verdict: AWESOME. Four Predators out of five.
PS. Adrien Brody? Hot. Badass.
