“Hey, Evans,” James said as he sat down on the sofa. “Guess what?”

“You’re sitting on my Potions book,” Lily said without looking up.

James rolled his eyes. “C’mon, put the book down for a minute and play along… NEWT revision can wait that long…” He grinned hopefully at her, while discreetly shifting himself off the textbook.

Lily shut the book on her lap with a sigh. “What is it?”

Grinning, he said, “Today, Evans, is exactly two years from the day that you first turned me down.”

Lily stared at him. “…and you think that’s important?”

“Definitely. How do you want to celebrate?”

“This is a cause to celebrate now?”

“Evans,” he said seriously, “when do I ever need a reason to do something fun?”

She thought about that for a second. “Good point.”

“So… any ideas?”

“I have revision to do! And so do you, in case you’d forgotten in all the excitement…”

“Like I said, it can wait. It’s not like you’re in any danger of failing your exams anyway.”

“I have to set a good example!”

He reached over and picked up the book that she still had on her lap. “Not if there’s no-one else around, you don’t,” he said with a smirk.

“What were you thinking?”

“Oh, I don’t know… you, me, the room,” he mused, meaning the room of requirement. “I just want to spend some time with you. Without all these…” he waved a hand vaguely, “…distractions…”

Lily nodded slowly. “Uh-huh. Well… I suppose I could do with some relaxation time…”

“Great,” he grinned. “I’ll go… make sure everything’s ready. Meet me there in twenty minutes, all right?”
“Uh, okay…” Before Lily could say anything else, he took her hand, kissed it, and them got up from the sofa and hurried out of the Gryffindor common room.

Lily blinked, and started putting her books and notes away. The next twenty minutes seemed to take an eternity to pass, but when she finally opened the door she knew it was worth it. The room was decked out as the kind of bedroom that a fairytale princess would have. There were also vases of roses on almost every possible surface.

“Wow…”

“Like it?” James said.

“How much is just the room’s enchantments?”

“…everything except the roses and the picnic. I got Butterbeer, too…”

“You thought of everything, huh?”

“Hey, I said I thought today was worth celebrating. And, well, if you’re going to celebrate something you might as well do it in style.”

“I like your thinking, Potter. Even if we are commemorating the day that I turned you down because I thought you were immature and completely insufferable.”

He laughed. “You don’t think that any more, right?”

“Well… you’re not completely insufferable,” she said as she walked over to where he was standing and kissed him, “…most of the time, anyway.”
