Doctor Who - "The Time of Angels"
Apr. 24th, 2010 07:54 pmOkay then. Right. Moffat-written episode, so yay for that.
River Song episode... erm, bit more complicated.
Weeping Angels episode... um, brb, hiding behind sofa. With a periscope.
...
OK, so... River Song is not popular in Who fandom. By any stretch of the imagination. (No, really, she's not...) Personally speaking, I didn't mind her too much back in Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead, so I wasn't too worried about her showing up this week.
This week - well, she kinda surprised me a bit. Mostly with the "I'm not going back to prison" comment, but also... oh, she's... acting like the Doctor's wife! Which she is... was... will be... godsdamn tenses... anyway, she was being very wife-y, and the Doctor was very henpecked-husband-y, which is a new look for him (and oh, god, the frustration vibes...), so I'm betting that in her timeline, they're either still married or have only very, very recently separated. Though, how would a marriage work when one partner keeps running around time and space... maybe it's like The Time Traveler's Wife, only with less naked!Eric Bana and more aliens.... hmm. May have to write some fic to work this all out...
(Also, I'm guessing this River is from pre-Silence in the Library, because she's not a Professor yet, she's just Dr Song... she has the Spoiler Diary though...)
Oh, and apparently, in the 51st century the Church has come over all military... which is a bit odd. Still, makes that century more interesting. Not that it needed to be, seeing as it is the time period that gave us Jack. That's pretty much interesting enough already, I'd say...
Um. Amy. So, this whole turning-to-stone thing is weird and bad and very not good and I don't like it.
Other than that she was awesome, as usual, and for some reason I find myself thinking that a) I think Amy fangirls River and b)...oh shit I think I ship it. Amy/River, that is. Erm. Shit...
The Doctor. Yeah, Matt's still fantastic. I've actually been thinking recently about how everyone has "their Doctor"... now, this is a bit complicated. See, my first Doctor was Nine, and don't get me wrong, I loved Nine. And I loved Ten, too, (mostly) because he was still the Doctor even if he looked different.
The conclusion I came to is that even though my first Doctor was Nine, the one I'd really call my Doctor is Eleven. Even though he's only had four episodes. Um. Yeah.
(Also, the other day I was in the bookstore and I saw this young guy - couldn't have been more than 18 - who was dressed almost exactly like Eleven. Same jacket, bowtie, even the shoes looked about right. It was both freaky and awesome.)
