It has taken a lot of concentrated thought, but I've got my Favourite Companions on Doctor Who settled. (Finally)
As there are... at least thirty-five to choose from, I've whittled it down to a Top Three.
These are, in no particular order....
Ace
Sarah Jane
Fitz (He's from the Eighth Doctor books, and really, there's Fitz/Eight subtext like you would not believe...)
On a slightly related note.... while thinking about Companions, I sidetracked myself into thinking about Doctor/Companion relationships.
See, the Doctor's relationships with his female Companions are fine... some (Romana, Sarah Jane) are just fantastic... but when I think about the really interesting relationships, they all involve the boy companions.
EG - Two/Jamie, Four/Harry, Five/Turlough, Eight/Fitz, Nine/Jack, Ten/Jack, and we could maybe fit in some platonic Four-Adric... so much interesting interaction!
(incidentally, yes, it drives me nuts that most of the fandom is still in love with Ten/Rose. Yikes, people. *sigh*)
Unrelated (still Whovian) Item:
...I've read a fic or two where The Other Ten from Journey's End becomes the Valeyard. Now, barring Stephen Moffat ignoring a large chunk of Classic!Who canon, that's not going to happen. That is not what (or who) the Valeyard is.
