It lives! It lives... er...
Yeah, it's been a while (OK, a whole week) since I posted. Or did anything online at all. This is not, as my last entry might suggest, because I was in catatonic shock over the last Dollhouse episode. Much less exciting.
Actually, I went to work last Monday, dealt with ASTONISHING numbers of new registrations (...I think I hit a personal best... don't ask...), and picked up a gastritis bug that's been making the rounds. Cue, two days of not being able to keep anything down (that was FUN), a trip to the doctor for some meds, and a few more days of feeling like crap. But hey, at least I wasn't chucking up at the mere mention of food any more. And I've probably lost a couple of pounds as well.
Now that all that... unpleasantness... is done, and with today being Cold and Grey and MISERABLE, I've been catching up on my TV. This means (this week anyway) Lost, Leverage and Supernatural (also I'm doing a minimarathon of Criminal Minds, seeing as I have about three weeks' worth of eps to watch).
Spoilers ahead, folks. Also, here be CAPSLOCK in abundance....
Lost: "LA X"
Uh... whoa.
-Liked the split effect, going from Reality A on the Island to Reality B on the plane. Seeing the Island underwater in Reality B was FREAKY. I guess that was the nuke....
-WHOA, RANDOM DESMOND WITH BAD HAIR ON THE PLANE. Yeah, cool that Jackass* was all "do I know you?" and clueless, but WTF? And why did he just disappear?
(*FYI, "Jackass" is how I personally refer to Jack. It kinda started out as an insult, in one of my several hating-on-Jack phases, but over time it developed into a sort of term of endearment. Ish. A term of endearment for someone I don't exactly like very much but don't have the energy to actively hate, if that makes sense.)
-UM, THANKS, WRITERS, FOR PUTTING US THROUGH WATCHING JULIET DIE AGAIN. Not cool. Also, James deserves better. Generally.
-HOLY IRONIC BOONE-LOCKE CONVERSATION, BATMAN. Especially the pulling-your-leg part.
-When Jackass saved Charlie from... death by heroin baggie... Charlie said "I'm supposed to be dead". Methinks a reference to Reality A, where Charlie is dead...
-WHOA WAIT WHAT THE FUCK. Man-in-Black/Esau/That Guy is SMOKEY?!?!?!?!? OOOOOKAY. Henceforth, I shall now call him Smokey!Locke. Would Smocke be too weird a shortening of that?
-Oh, Benjamin. *huggles*
-RICHARD!!! Smokey!Locke hurt Richard! NO-ONE HURTS RICHARD. EVER. GRRRRRRRRRRR. Also, Richard Alpert being SCARED is not something I'm used to or particularly happy about. He's... he's RICHARD, FFS.
-Ilana, I don't know you, I'm not sure I like you, and you are certainly not in charge. With that in mind, kindly sit down, STFU, and stop pointing guns around.
-Jacob? But you're.... oh, only Hurley can see you. Makes sense.
-Others? MORE Others? Oh, it's the ones that took Cindy, Emma and Zach. Who, BTW, have all gone disturbingly native.
-And finally, writers, I thought we were going to have an issue to discuss re: Sayid being d-e-a-d. But then he got drowned or baptised or whatever in the temple and now he's alive. This is good. NO MORE KILLING SAYID, OKAY? *glare*
PS. Overall... fantastic double episode. Great start to the last season. Confusing as all hell, but then I'm used to that... this is not my first Lost rodeo after all.
Supernatural: The Song Remains The Same
OK...
basically, Anna's decided that Sam needs to die to avert Lucifer's plans. Seeing as she can't get to him herself, she zips back to 1978 to kill John and Mary before he's conceived.
Decent idea, even if she is ripping off Terminator to do it. BTW, Arnold was much more threatening-looking than you, Anna. *nyah*
Anyway.... Castiel zaps himself and the boys back to 1978 to stop her, but it wipes out his angelmojo so he's too weak to do anything the rest of the episode. Which consists of a LOT of awkward looks and questions between the two generations of Winchesters present.
Eventually it works out. Sam gets to say a bunch of things to 78!John that he wishes he'd said before present!John died. Dean and Mary got a bit of a moment too.
Then Anna shows up, of course, and who shows up to stop her? MICHAEL. FREAKING MICHAEL THE ARCHANGEL. IN JOHN WINCHESTER'S BODY.
IT WAS FREAKING AWESOME. Especially Michael!John talking with Dean.
Oh, and the best part was that they went back to 1978. Dean was born January 24th, 1979. If we do the math.... yeah, Mary was already pregnant when they got there. Not that it was mentioned until the end of the episode...
Leverage: The Future Job
Oh, this show.
I love this show, so so much. Actually this might be one of my favourite episodes now. This is PARTLY because of Luke Perry, who was in Dollhouse too and WOW, that guy is amazing.
The rest... well, a lot of it is to do with Parker. See... well, I wouldn't say she's my favourite character, because I couldn't possibly choose just one favourite.
But she's the character I identify with the most. Yes, that's weird. No, I'm not a world-class professional thief. But we both have a few (more in her case, admittedly) problems in the way we interpret the outside world. ANYWAY. None of this is to do with the episode. Parker was just amazing this week, and Beth Riesgraf put in a fantastic performance, and I loved it.
OTHER REASONS:
-the team explaining how the fake psychic just cold-read her, and how he used cold-reading and lots of intelligence-gathering to make it look like he's communicating with spirits.
-Tara being a "psychic" and giving the fake psychic a "prediction"... that the team are then really really careful to make sure it comes true.
-the ending. Honestly, my skepticism of all things paranormal and my TV don't normally collide... but THAT. THAT WAS AWESOME. If there's one thing TV needs more of, it's television psychics being gently coerced into publicly revealing themselves as complete frauds. (/steps off of soapbox. Sorry, it's just... I really, really don't like psychics.)
And finally, some awesomeness:
Green Day and the cast of the American Idiot musical at the Grammys. I need to see that. SO MUCH. Hmmm. Need to find out when it opens, beg/buy/steal ticket, get to New York. (The bummer is that I won't even have my usual consolation prize of buying the OST and filling in the rest for myself - because the music, I guess, will come mostly from the American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown albums, Which I've already got. DAMMIT.)
