Heroes 3x13 "Dual"

Oh, boy.

This was the last Volume Three episode (but not the last of Season Three)... and they certainly ended with a bang.

So, this week was a little different, as we had a Sylar monologue of philosophical stuff. Accompanied by a sequence of clips, which seemed very purposefully arranged to me - when Sylar's V.O talked about "good", showing Matt and Daphne, "evil" represented by Arthur, "fear" by Tracy.

On to the actual ep.

Pinehearst

Well, Arthur's very much dead this time. I was momentarily pissed at Nathan for thinking it was Peter who shot him, but he was disabused of that notion fairly quickly. Actually, I spent a lot of this ep being pissed at Nathan. A lot of that has to do with what appears to be his slow and inexorable slide towards the Dark Side. (*ahem* getting ahead of myself here)

So Nathan's trying to convince Peter to join him. Fair enough. Peter hands over the gun... and at this point I was going "Peter, srsly, grow a spine already".... and I was pleasantly surprised to see that he has. When he knocked Nathan out..

Odessa

A lot of OMGWTF happens in Odessa (at Primatech) this week. Basically, Noah, Claire, Angela and Meredith are about to head to Pinehearst to help Peter.

Until the lights go out, the shutters go down and it turns out that Sylar's got them locked down inside the Primatech facility. With him. The gist of his plan is to prove that all four of them are monsters just as bad as he is. Naturally Claire is not happy about that.

(Quick aside: a great deal of BAMF!Claire this week. This is excellent.)

New York, Sixteen Years Ago

Hiro, clinging to a flagpole. Talking to a pigeon.

Enough said, dude.

New York, the present

I've said it before, I'll say it again. Matt'n'Daphne'n'Ando make an awesome team. Also, Matt and Daphne are actually starting to act like a couple already. Which is a bit weird. But still cool.

Pinehearst Lab

Oh, Mohinder. Silly, silly dumbass Mohinder. Still, at least he was about to take the proper Formula of Doom before Daphne nicked it. Then Peter shows up, with a gun and the intention of destroying all the Formula.

(Quick Aside: Seriously, some people should not ever be seen with guns in their hands. Like The Doctor in his various incarnations. Peter Petrelli is one of these people.)

Also... oh, look, Flint and Knox. Who also want the Formula destroyed, if for more selfish reasons.

Past New York

Hiro's hanging out with tiny!Hiro. Who is also awesome, and helps older!Hiro to get the formula.

Primatech

Okay, there's a point in this episode where Angela really needed to be stroking a white cat. Possibly while laughing in a suitably evil manner. And, um, Claire? Please, don't ever use the word "spanking" again. You'll just encourage the shippers.

Things I Learnt This Week #1: Lying to Sylar is morally worse than trying to blow up New York and trying to poison your husband.

(Elsewhere in Primatech)

Noah has a clever idea: "release" some of the Villains currently incarcerated in Level Five out, and use them as Sylar-bait. It was clever. Shame it didn't work, because in the epic, if very short, battle between Sylar and that creepy bastard Eric Doyle, Sylar won. Relatively easily. Ah well.

Present New York

So, Ando injected himself with the Formula in the hope of gaining time-travel abilities, so he could rescue Hiro. Then he passed out.

When he woke up, he tried to figure out what his ability was, trying to stop time... (and that was a hilarious scene)

...except that's not his ability. Current thinking is that Ando is a kind of super-charger - he touches someone with abilities and their power becomes more powerful. He touched Matt and Matt could hear the thoughts of everyone in New York. He touched Daphne and she could run so fast she ended up moving backwards in time. They figure out that Daphne and Ando can use this to get to Hiro and rescue him.

(It's all to do with the Theory of Relativity - if you're moving fast enough, you can travel in time, basically.)

Also... Matt knows the Theory of Relativity. I think he just got more awesome, and I didn't think that was possible.

Primatech

Well. Basically, Sylar injects Meredith with adrenaline, causing her to lose control of her fire. He then locks her in a cell with Noah, leaving Noah a gun with one bullet and a hell of a choice to make.

(But then Claire comes along... they escape through Meredith weakening the glass with her fire, Noah shooting the glass, and finally Claire jumping through the glass. It was awesome to watch. Except that Meredith stayed, because she couldn't control her fire.)

Past New York

Well, Hiro and tiny!Hiro got the Formula from Kaito's safe. Then Kaito showed up and attacked Hiro with the Kensei Sword. (No, really) He did, however, give Hiro a chance to explain himself... Hiro told him the Formula had to be destroyed, and tore it in half.... right before Daphne and Ando show up, grab him, and take him back to the present.

Present New York/Pinehearst

So, Ando, Daphne and Hiro appear back in Present-day New York, and they (with Matt) head for Pinehearst to destroy the Formula. Unfortunately they found Tracy first... though she was easily dealt with when Hiro punched her. Seriously.

Down in The Lab, Mohinder's being generally ill-treated by Flint (who I used to like, but... not so much, now). This results in him being thrown against a vat of Formula, which causes said vat to fall over, drenching Mohinder in Formula before he manages to get out of the Lab.

Peter's having a little.... problem with Flint, regarding their rather different motives. Then Nathan shows up, and we have the obligatory Petrelli Sibling Angst scene. Right before Flint sets fire to the (apparently very, very flammable) Formula spilt over the floor. This results in Nathan seemingly trapped by the fire, with Peter on the other side of the flames. At this point, Nathan pissed me off even more, because he could easily have flown out of there. Instead, it was Peter who had the foresight to inject himself with one of the remaining vials of Formula, grab his brother and fly out.

When they land, outside, Nathan basically calls Peter a hypocrite and flies off. I don't think I like Nathan any more.

Primatech

Things I Learnt This Week #2: Sylar and Angela are both, individually, very scary. Together, it just gets worse.

Things I Learnt This Week #3: Apparently, the Grays aren't Sylar's parents either. No idea who his real family is, though, because Claire chose that moment to sneak up and knock him out so Angela could escape.

And then... oh, god. Well, Claire runs back to the cell where Meredith is. Meredith's now having even more trouble with controlling her power. Claire tries to get her to leave, but she refuses, and Noah gets Claire out right before Meredith finally loses all control, causing Primatech to go up in flames.

(The last thing Claire said to Meredith was "I love you Mom")

This... this is the end of Volume Three. Just like the previous end-of-Volume episodes, we get a minute or so of the next.

Volume Four: Fugitives

We see Nathan, in a car, talking to someone who is mostly in shadow. He's basically handing over a file on known people with abilities, talking about how dangerous these people are (I saw Tracy, Hiro and Matt in there).

The bestworst part is that DarkSide!Nathan has a plan for these people. It involves putting them in a "facility" and "studying" them. GRRR.

Oh, and the person he was talking to?

It was the President.

So... yeah. That was, seriously, a really good episode.
