Lost 6x04 "The Substitute"

Um.

Okay, so...

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, people. Dammit, why must Locke episodes always contain exponentially more Weird Shit than the rest?

This week in what I am now calling Reality B (you know, the one with no Island), I went AW and YAY and WAIT WHAT THE FRAK a lot.

The AWWWW and YAY were for, in no particular order: Hurley, Rose and Ben showing up, the whole idea of Ben as a teacher of all things, Helen still being around, and Hurley and Rose just being awesome.

The WTF was... well, it's kind of hard to explain. But basically, I don't trust Locke any more. Even Reality B!Locke, who AFAIK is just... normal, extraordinarily messed up, pre-Island John Locke. Not the current form of Smokey/Evil/That Guy In Black. I just had this really uneasy feeling about him the whole time. But then, at the same time, I also felt really, really bad for him, because Reality B!Locke might have Helen and a new job and all, but he can't walk. He didn't get his miracle Island cure. That makes me sad for him.

IDK. I'm probably overreacting.

The Really Weird Shit, though, is all happening over in Reality A (that'd be the original one).

Before I get to that, though, I would just like to make a little prediction: that there'll be an increase in H/C fic involving Richard soon. I say this because, well, Richard normally is hot. Everyone knows that. Richard all bruised and scraped and beaten up... should not be hotter. But he is. I think it's because he's still, y'know, Richard, but the bruises and scrapes and suchlike make you (read: me) want to whisk him away and look after him.

(There might well also be a surge in H/C fic involving Sawyer. I think the alcohol + underwear + as-close-to-emo-as-possible music combination explains why.)

Now, Weird Shit Time. AKA Reasons I Am Now Scared Of Smokey!Locke.

1) ...uh, beating up Richard? If Richard is scared of him, then I should be too.

2) whenever he was talking to Sawyer, trying to get him on his side... all I could think was that what he was saying sounded like... uh... Lucifer trying to talk someone into getting him out of Hell. Um. Yes, the Jacob=Mark Pellegrino=Lucifer on Supernatural irony did not escape me. In fact... that actually helps. Smokey!Locke sounded like SPN!Lucifer trying to talk Sam into saying 'yes'. That makes sense, right?

3) Random Blond Kid. Now, a) how come Sawyer could see him and Richard couldn't? and b) I have a feeling that the RBK is either Jacob (somehow) or Aaron (god only knows how that would work).

4) Smokey!Locke was 'recruiting', right? Am I the only one with the feeling that he/it only went after Sawyer because Richard turned him down? Because if I'm right about that... well, it's not necessarily a bad thing, but it's definitely interesting.

5) OK. The numbers. 4 8 15 16 23 42, we all know them.

From what Smokey!Locke told us (and Sawyer), the Numbers match up like this:

4 - John Locke
8 - Hugo Reyes
15 - James Ford
16 - Sayid Jarrah
23 - Jack Shephard
42 - "Kwon" (unspecified as to whether this means Jin or Sun... my theory is that Jacob meant *both* of them)

In other words... that's the Oceanic Six, plus Locke and Sawyer and minus Aaron. Smokey!Locke called them "candidates" - apparently, for... Island Stewardship. Looking after the Island the way Jacob did - and told Sawyer that there were three options: do nothing, accept the job, or leave the Island (with Smokey!Locke) and decline the job.

At this point, even though I'm slightly terrified of Smokey!Locke, the extent of me being worried for Sawyer is... worse. I know he can look after himself and everything... but I'm not sure it's going to be enough.

EDIT: Just thought of something. This episode is called "The Substitute", referring to Locke. This episode-naming is similar to "The Constant" (referring to Desmond) and "The Variable" (referring to Daniel) in seasons 4 and 5 respectively.

Is it just me, or does that look suspiciously significant?
